What is different about ACTing Works?
We have limited impact if we don’t help people with mindset and thinking patterns as part of a Stress Management intervention because the mind has a habit of talking us out of taking new actions.
That is why we include specific elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to build focus, mindful and valued action, resilience and to promote greater psychological flexibility, both at work and in one’s personal life.
The inclusion of ACT techniques to support personal, stress, health and wellbeing and other lifestyle adaptations is way ahead of other corporate programmes offered.
What is ACT?
Known as ‘modern-day’ or 3rd wave CBT, it differs from standard CBT in that it combines acceptance and mindfulness strategies alongside behavioural change. It helps people let go of unhelpful thoughts, ideas or judgements that get in the way of taking committed action. CBT uses efforts to challenge thoughts and thinking patterns. Both however, enjoy a large, statistically significant evidence base across a range of symptoms and conditions.
Psychologically-Flexible people are skilled at:
- Not buying into rigid thinking or doing things in a certain way just because that’s what they’ve always done.
- Flexible in their approach to new perspectives, opportunities and challenges.
- Taking valued action in accordance with their long-term vision in spite of difficult or anxious thoughts, feelings and emotions.
